There’s nothing better than getting out on the open road to see the country from your vehicle. Road trips are a lot of fun, but things can get ugly quick if you’re not prepared. Consider these tips to have a successful road trip adventure.
A Clean and Comfortable Vehicle
When you’re going out on a road trip, every part of your vehicle needs to be clean and stay clean. You also want to stay clean. To keep everything in order, consider keeping wipes on-hand, which will help you to clean your hands, the dashboard, spills, and they can help you freshen up if you haven’t seen a shower in a little while. Keep a bag handy for all of your trash too.
You don’t want to get funky and grungy wearing the same clothing over and over. That said, you don’t want to bring along every piece of clothing you have either because you need to have space in your vehicle for other things. Layering your clothes on a road trip is just as important as it is while you’re flying. The best clothing to take on a road trip is athleisure clothing. It’s clothing that can be worn to the office and to the gym. It doesn’t wrinkle, dries quickly and takes up little space. You could bring a bar of laundry soap, and wash your clothes in a sink if you need to.
Food and Drink
It’s always a good idea to have plenty of snacks and drinks while on the road. This will save you money, but you don’t want to eat a lot of unhealthy food either. Fruit, trail-mix and protein bars can help you stay full in between meals. If you can get access to hot water, MRE’s can be eaten out of the pouches. If you happen to stay in a hotel that has a little kitchenette, you could make your meals there. You want to be careful with carrying perishable foods with you in your vehicle. Be sure to keep plenty of ice for your trip, in case.
Something to Listen To
Road trips can get boring if you don’t have anything to listen to. Music is always good. You might want to create a playlist on your phone or mp3 player of all your favorite tunes, in the event you can’t find a decent radio station while on the road. However, a road trip can be a good time to catch up on your favorite author with an audiobook.
Planning your trip is always best, but you can always leave room for spontaneity. If you’re doing the latter, you’ll want to bring extra cash with you. Have fun.
